Bible Study Lesson 10                                     The Feast of Tabernacles                                                         February 19/1996

We now come to the Feast of Tabernacles. This feast is going to be celebrated when Christ returns, there is no dought about it. It is foretold in the end time prophesies. Now lets have a look at this feast.

We start with Leviticus. 23 : 33 - 34 . Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Speak to the children of Israel, saying : The fifteenth day of this month shall be the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days to the Lord.

Deuteronomy. 16 : 13 - 17. You shall observe the Feast of Tabernacles seven days, when you have gathered from your threshing floor and from your winepress; and you shall rejoice in your feast, you and your son and your daughter, your manservant and your maidservant and the Levite, the stranger and the fatherless and the widow, who are within your gates. Seven days you shall keep a sacred feast to the Lord your God in the place which the Lord chooses, because the Lord your God will bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hands, so that you surely rejoice.

Three times a year all your males shall appear before the Lord your God in the place which He chooses : At the Feast of Unleavened Bread, at the Feast of Weeks, and at the Feast of Tabernacles; and they shall not appear before the Lord empty-handed.

Deuteronomy. 14 : 22 - 27. you shall truly tithe all the increase of your grain that the field produces year by year. And you shall eat before the Lord your God, in the place where He chooses to make His name abide, the tithe of your grain and your new wine and your oil, of the firstlings of your herds and your flocks, that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always.

But if the journey is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry the tithe, or if the place where the Lord your God chooses to put His name is too far from you, when the Lord your God has blessed you, Then you shall exchange it for money, take the money in your hand, and go to the place which the Lord your God chooses.

And you shall spend that money for whatever your heart desires: for oxen or sheep, for wine or similar drink, for whatever your heart desires; you shall eat there before the Lord your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household. You shall not forsake the Levite who is within your gates, for he has no part nor inheritance with you.

Leviticus. 23 : 40 - 42. And you shall take for yourselves on the first day the fruit of beautiful trees, branches of palm trees, the boughs of leafy trees, and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God for seven days. You shall keep it as a feast to the Lord for seven days in the year. It shall be a statute forever in your generations. You shall celebrate it in the seventh month. You shall dwell in booths for seven days. All who are native Israelites shall dwell in booths.

Now we shall see how this relates to the New Testament Church and to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ . We will also see how it relates to prophesy .

Hebrews . 9 : 11 . But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.

2 Peter. 1 : 13 - 14. Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you, knowing that shortly I must put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me.

Hebrews. 11 : 8 - 9 . By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would afterward receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise.

Now that we see that the New Testament writers used the phrase of dwelling in tenths on many occasions . Did they have to explain it to the people what dwelling in tenths meant ? Well of course not ! They knew what the Feast of Tabernacles repesented , they knew the meaning of dwelling in tenths . Did they keep and observe these Feast Days ? Well of course they did , They had the Old Testament , and the history of their nation and their people .

Did the New Testament and Christ keep these Holy Days ? Well of course they did . And here is scripture to prove it .

Jesus tells His disciples to go up the the Feast . John . 7 : 8 . You go up the this feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, for My time had not yet fully come. How do we know that this is the Feast of Tabernacles ? Well John . 7 : 2. tells us . Now the Jews Feast of Tabernacles was at hand . So here you have it Jesus tells His disciples to go up the the Feast . Did Christ keep these Feasts also ? We shall see !

Jesus tells His brothers to go up to the Feast , and Jesus goes also . John . 7 : 10 - 11 . ( 10 ) But when His brothers had gone up, then He also went up to the feast, nor openly, but as it were in secret . ( 11 ) Then the Jews sought Him at the feast, and said, Where is He ?

Is that all that Jesus did was attend the Feast ? Well we shall see what else that He did , He also taught on the day of the Feast . John. 7 : 14. Now about the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught . There you have it Jesus even taught on the Feast of Tabernacles .

It even tells you that Jesus was there at the Feast right up until the last day of the Feast . John. 7 : 37 . On the last day , that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink .

So now you are going to say , that all of this was done away with at the cross ( stake , tree ) . Well we will see if that is so ! We will now go to the end time prophesies . I recommend that you read these scriptures very carefully , maybe even the second time .

Zechariah. 14 : 1 - 20 . Behold, the day of the Lord is coming, And your spoil will be divided in your midst. For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem; The city shall be taken, the houses rifled. And the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into captivity, But the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city. Then the Lord will go forth And fight against those nations,

As He fights in the day of battle, And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, Which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, From east to west, Making a very large valley; Half of the mountain shall move toward the north And half of it toward the south. Then you shall flee As you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king fo Judah.

Thus the Lord my God will come, And all the saints with you. It shall come to pass in that day That there will be no light; The lights will diminish. It shall be one day Which is known to the Lord-Neither day nor night. But a t evening time it shall happen That it will be light.

And in that day it shall be That living waters shall flow from Jerusalem, Half of them toward the eastern sea And half of them toward the western sea; In both summer and winter it shall occur. And the Lord shall be King over all the earth. In that day it shall be the Lord is one And His name one. All the land shall be turned into a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem.

Jerusalem shall be raised up and inhabited in her place form Benjamin's Gate to the place of the First Gate and the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananeel to the king's winepresses. the people shall dwell in it; And no longer shall there be utter destruction, But Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.

                And this shall be the plague with which the Lord will strike all the people who fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet, Their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets, And their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths. It shall come to pass in that day That a great panic from the Lord will be among them. Everyone will seize the hand of his neighbour, And raise his hand against his neighbour's hand;

Judah also will fight at Jerusalem. And the wealth of all the surrounding nations Shall be gathered together: Gold, silver, and apparel in great abundance. Such also shall be the plague On the horse and the mule, On the camel and the donkey, And on all the cattle that will be in those camps. So shall this plague be .

Note : Back in those day's the people didn't believe that it was possible for the flesh of the body to dissolve while standing on their feet . Or their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets . And their tongues dissolving in their mouths . Because they didn't know of any power that would do that , only the power of God . But was this possible back then ? No , well of course not , this prophecy was not for that age , it is for this age . Is it possible today ? Well of course it is , nuclear war would do exactly that to a human being . Pretty amazing don't you think . That the prophets of old could predict such a thing . ( Just as God did to Sodom and Gomorrah ) .

And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to Keep the Feast of Tabernacles. And it shall be that which ever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, on them there will be no rain. If the family of Egypt will not come up and enter in, they shall have no rain; they shall receive the plague with which the Lord strikes the nations who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.

This shall be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not come up to  keep the Feast of Tabernacles.

In that day HOLINESS TO THE LORD shall be engraved on the bells of the horses. The pots in the Lord's house shall be like the bowls before the altar. yes, every pot in Jerusalem and Judah shall be holiness to the Lord of hosts. Everyone who sacrifices shall come and take them and cook in them. In that day there shall no longer be a Canaanite in the house of the Lord of hosts.

How can any rational minded person in their right mind deny these Scriptures in Zechariah. A six grader in elementary school can understand these Scriptures . Christ kept these days , the Apostles kept these days, the New Testament Church kept these days . And I will certainly keep all of the Holy Days which was commanded by God to keep . I have shown you through the Old Testament why they were kept , I have shown you through the New Testament how they were kept , and I have also shown you , that when Christ comes back that they will be kept again by all of man kind .

Well how is it then , that most of these so called christian churches and christian people try and tell you the complete opposite of God's Sacred Word . They will say that all of these things are done away with, they will say , that it was done away with at the cross ( stake , tree ) . That it is a Jewish thing . That it is in the Old Covenant . Well when Christ comes back you can tell Him those things . But what do you think He will say to you , He will say , You had My word and My Father's word .

Here is what Christ will say to those who don't keep His word : Matthew . 7 : 23 . And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness !

Again : Then He will also say to those on the left hand, Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

Are you on the right hand or on the left hand ?

Will you keep the Feast of Tabernacles this year ?

You are responsible for what you read !

May the Father & Jesus Christ be with you always

  Amen .
